Trident Swim & Dive Team Newsletter
June 6, 2026
We hope everyone has had a great first full week of the season! Thank you to our swimmers, families, coaches, volunteers, and committee members for helping make the start of the season a success. Please take a few minutes to review the important updates, reminders, and upcoming events below.
Weekly Highlights
We wrapped up another great week of practice! Our swimmers continue to work hard, build confidence in the water, and prepare for the start of the competitive season.
Time Trials Reminder: Time Trials are quickly approaching (June 11) and are an important opportunity for swimmers to become comfortable with the flow of a swim meet while allowing coaches to establish baseline times for the season.
Practice Schedule Update: Evening practices will continue through June 10. Beginning June 12, practices will transition to our summer morning practice schedule.
Time Trials Reminder
Time Trials RSVPs have been updated in SwimTopia and parents can now select their swimmer's events.
Time Trials are an important part of the season and serve several purposes. They provide a great opportunity for swimmers to become comfortable with the flow of a swim meet while also allowing coaches to establish baseline times for the season.
Swimmers will have the opportunity to practice:
- Diving from the starting blocks
- Responding to the starting signal
- Reporting and lining up for events
- Following proper swim meet etiquette
- Receiving feedback from coaches on their swims
Swim Meet Etiquette Reminders
As we prepare for Time Trials, coaches would like swimmers to practice a few important meet behaviors:
- Wait quietly behind the blocks and listen for instructions from officials and coaches.
- After completing a race, remain in the water until all swimmers in the heat have finished.
- Exit the pool (like an athlete!) and report to the coaches after your race to receive feedback and instruction.
Stroke & Turn Officials
Time Trials will include Stroke & Turn Judges, just as our regular meets do. As a result, swimmers may receive disqualifications (DQs) for violations of stroke, turn, or finish rules.
The purpose of these DQs is educational. Time Trials provide an excellent opportunity for swimmers to learn the rules, receive feedback, and make corrections before the competitive meet season begins.
Time Trials are designed to be a learning experience and confidence-building opportunity for swimmers of all ages and experience levels. We encourage all swimmers to participate and take advantage of this opportunity to prepare for the upcoming meet season.
Coach's Corner
Practice Reminders from Coach Steve
As we settle into the season, Coach Steve would like to share a few reminders to help practices run smoothly and safely for everyone.
Pool Access During Practice
During swim and dive team practices, the pool is reserved exclusively for swim and dive team participants. Family members and non-team members should not use the pool for recreational swimming during practice times.
Parent Viewing Areas
Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay and watch practice from the pool deck. Please avoid sitting at either end of the pool where coaches are working with swimmers and providing instruction.
Children on the Grounds
Siblings and other children are welcome to play on the pool grounds, including the tennis courts and surrounding areas. Parents and guardians remain responsible for supervising their children at all times during practice.
Meet Day Practice Expectations
As we approach the start of the meet season, swimmers are expected to attend their regularly scheduled Trident practice on meet days whenever possible. Practice remains an important part of meet preparation and allows coaches to review race strategies, relay assignments, and other important information prior to competition.
Team Support & Meet Availability Reminder
Team Support job sign-ups and meet RSVPs are now open in SwimTopia.
Please take a few minutes to log in and:
- Sign up for your family's Team Support assignments
- Mark your swimmer's availability for upcoming meets
- Select your swimmer's events for Time Trials
Completing these items as early as possible helps our volunteers, coaches, and meet coordinators plan effectively for the season. Meet RSVPs close 48 hours before each event and Team Support Sign ups close 24 hours before each event to allow the coaches and team support coordinator time to build the line up and find coverage for any team support openings.
As a reminder, each family is expected to fulfill the team's 5-point Team Support requirement.
If meeting the Team Support requirement will create a hardship for your family, please contact Team Support Coordinator Julie Rohe at [email protected] no later than June 15 to discuss alternative Team Support options.
Drink Donation Reminder
Thank you to all of the families who have already contributed their drink donations for the season!
If you have not yet submitted your family's drink donation, donations will be accepted at all practices and Time Trials through Friday, June 12.
These donations help stock our concession stand throughout the season and play an important role in supporting team fundraising efforts.
If you are unable to bring your donation during regular practice times or Time Trials, please contact Julie Rohe at [email protected] to arrange an alternative drop-off option.
